| | Hmm. This review business can be addictive, but if ever there was a product I want to moan bitterly about to anyone who would listen, then it is this duvet..I bought single bed. Needed bedding. Rather than buying cheap poly, hollofibre duvet, I decided, well..why not get something..a bit nicer, maybe pay a bit more, you know, get better quality..This duvet comes with a lot of impressive information about the research they carried out, when designing it, the main selling point is the claim that it "keeps you warm in the cold, and cool in the heat" and that as, such, doesn't require a tog rating. As a woman, living in England, this sounds good to me,as I freeze in the winter and..well,in the summer too, quite often, but I have lousy circulation and often get too hot as well,so I thought it all sounded just the ticket. The manufacturer's blurb witters on about ..hypoallergenic..ness,how it was tested in Australia and a colder place and how great it was,and that it reduces your heart rate while you sleep (uh-huh) and all kinds of similar things, you'll sleep better, feel better, not grunt sullenly at people in the mornings like normal, all because of this wonderful product you'll wonder how you lived without...(Did I menion it 'drops your heart rate while you sleep'..does that not happen anyway, when you're asleep..? Not a doctor,so not sure, but it does sound a bit sketchy now I come to think of it) In short, it all impressed me so much, I bought one. Right.Early summer, UK, and it's..not that hot,but not that cold.I froze for the first 40 minutes, then gradually warmed up and fell alseep. This pattern was repeated throughout the rest of the year, and I was constantly throwing an extra blanket on and off the bed, half the night. Winter, and to be blunt, there's no way this thin horse blanket thing is going to keep you toasty as you pop into bed, forget it.I habitually slept with an extra couple of blankets/quilts/coats/dogs on the bed. And on an electric blanket as well.No idea about the heart thing,I don't keep a cardiac monitor on the bedside table. Best night's sleep I've ever had? Not a bit.I've had the worst insomnia I've ever had.The other intriguing thing I notice about this duvet, is that, if you're still awake after about an hour of being in bed, you'll possibly find,as I have, that you'll quite suddenly find your body temperature rise enough to melt lead, regardless of the ambient temperature (no central heating in my sleeping environment ,so not warm) Stick an arm or a leg out,and it will just get frostbitten while your core temperature is still boiling like the filling in a microwaved apple turnover. I wondered if this is due to duvet cover,as in the winter I use thicker ones, but I don't know what, if any, difference that makes.. On occasion, I have slept in guest bunk beds, elsewhere with cheaper ordinary hollofibre duvets, in a great deal more comfort. I found this product less satisfactory than just sleeping under a cheap duvet with a Thomas The Tank Engine duvet cover.I've been pretty annoyed about it, and I'm basically, going to just buy another duvet. For the money,I'd advise saving the pennies you'd have spent on this one,and seeing what kind of deal your local department store will do on a goose down duvet in their next sale, a 'four seasons' one. Which is what I wish I'd bought instead of this giant oven mitt. I also bought the same item,as a mattress topper, in the hopes of extra comfort,in the temperature control department.Hmmm. It could be just me,my..inferior metabolism or circulation, but I didn't find a scrap of personal evidence to back up any claims made about this product and found it failed to meet most of the non-medical ones.Sorry!
