What a way to wake up in the morning!
4 out of 5 stars.
This battery operated alarm clock makes a great present for Dalek fans. The sound effects are loud, and sound sufficiently authentic to make most grown-ups jump. The clock has a very quiet (almost inaudible), soothing tick to lull you into a false sense of security. The time and alarm are set by turning little knobs on the back, and the alarm is turned on or off with a switch on the back. The clock needs batteries, and you'll need a small screwdriver to open the battery compartment. The alarm time is shown by a small hand, and we've found it's not very accurate - pointing the hand at 7 makes the alarm go off about 7:15 - but that's easy to allow for. The numbers around the outside are harder to see than it looks in the image, so it's perhaps not ideal for teaching a young child to tell the time. Ours has kept good time so far.

When the alarm operates, coloured lights flash on the front of the clock, and it plays its Dalek phrases, very loudly, starting with 'EXTERMINATE!!' It's enough to wake the soundest sleeper, and possibly the neighbours too if your walls are thin. There is a neat little Dalek on top which acts as the reset button - I was afraid this might come off easily, but it's lasted OK so far despite the clock falling on the floor a couple of times. You can also demo the phrases to make unsuspecting grown-ups jump by pressing the Dalek on top, and it will play one phrase at a time. (Strictly speaking, there are only 3 phrases, as 'you are an enemy of the Daleks; you must be destroyed' is a single phrase.)

Personally, I'd prefer not to be woken by Dalek noises, but there are plenty of children who would love this (even if their families might not be so enthusiastic).
