| Pity they didn't publish the full versions | |
| | I'd been looking forward to getting this box set for a long time. Joan Hickson is the perfect Miss Marple and always will be. The stories are well adapted, capturing the atmosphere of the books well.
This dvd release DOES NOT DESERVE FIVE STARS. It is supposed to be a 'complete' set of the Miss Marple stories that were produced. So why, oh why, did the BBC supply cut versions of some of them? In their infinite wisdom the BBC seems to have decided that one dvd per story was the way to go.
Yes, some of the productions would not have fitted onto one disc, but I for one would have preferred to view the full uncut version - even if this meant the story was spread over 2 or more discs.

| | **WARNING TO ALL WHO ARE CONSIDERING PURCHASING THIS BOXSET** The old, or rather new trick of editing a programme in order to fit them onto a single disc has ruined these classic Agatha Christie dramas.
I am quite familiar with some of the individual episodes so I instantly realised some scenes had been deleted. What makes it worse is some of the dialogue from Miss Marple's final summary has been wiped. It ruined my enjoyment of these fantastic classic dramas. A real hatchet job!
| | The most authentic Miss Marple ever - if you turn a stone in a village you are never sure what you will find | |
| | Agatha Christie after having seen Joan Hickson in her play "Appointment With Death." sent her the following note, "I hope one day you will play my dear Miss Marple." And she did in a most splendid fashion as she got closest to the character intended by Agatha Christie. As I was growing up with the Miss Marple portrayed by Margaret Rutherford I first needed to get use to the more quite, less eccentric and less humorous portrayal by Joan Hickson, but it did grow on me in a way that I prefer Joan Hickson's portrayal. It is quite astonishing what two great actresses can make out of the material. Compare both, both highly enjoyable.
| | | What can you say! This is how TV should be. Forget that joke that ITV have come up with and see the real thing. Joan Hickson, the music, even Inspector Slack, enjoy great viewing. By the way, five stars is not enough, it deserves more, much more.
| | | This is a beautifully presented boxed set containing all 12 Miss Marple mysteries starring the wonderful Joan Hickson. Well filmed in perfect locations, this has a timeless quality about it. Each mystery is split into episodes, but that allows each story to unfold at a stately pace without loss of detail. Having these altogether is a real treat and you'll definitely watch them again and again. Highly recommended.
