Editorial Reviews:
First broadcast in 1991 the third series of The Simpsons contains a clutch of candidates for "Best Simpsons Episode Ever". Homer is on such appallingly good form throughout this series that a reasonable case can be made for asserting that he has superseded the importance of his Greek namesake in the annals of culture and civilisation.

The opening "Stark Raving Dad", for instance, features a guest appearance by an un-credited Michael Jackson, who plays an obese white inmate whom Homer meets while confined to a mental institution. Other standout episodes include "Like Father, Like Clown", in which Krusty reveals he is estranged from his Rabbi father; this is The Simpsons at the height of its powers, mature, ironic, erudite and touching while bristling with slapstick and Bart-inspired cheek. "Flaming Moe's" features Aerosmith and sees Homer invent a cocktail which desperate, sleazy bartender Moe steals from him. "Radio Bart" is another demonstration of the series' knack for cultural references, parodying the Billy Wilder movie Ace in the Hole. Finally, there's "Brother Can You Spare Two Dimes", in which Danny DeVito reprises his role as Homer's brother, regaining the fortune Homer lost him by inventing a Baby Translator.

Immensely enjoyable at anything from a primary to a doctoral thesis level, this third year of the show demonstrates conclusively that The Simpsons is quite simply, and by a large margin, the greatest television programme ever made. --David Stubbs

Simpsons Season 3
5 out of 5 stars.
This in my opinion is the start of the "golden years". The Simpsons' 3rd series brought even better animation, more layered, funnier storylines and is also where the voices became what we know them as now.

Stark Raving Dad: Really funny episode. The scene where Homer is in group therapy is priceless. Michael Jackson was also very good, the song he sings with Bart is very sweet 4/5

Mr Lisa Goes To Washington: An episode that's till as relevant today as it was when it was made 4/5

When Flanders Failed: Good episode. The noise Bart makes when he does his "death grip" or whatever is really funny 3/5

Bart The Murderer: One of the very best early episodes. Joe Mantenga as Fat Tony is so funny 5/5

Homer Defined: Good episode, shame "pulling a Homer" didn't catch on lol 3/5

Like father, like clown: I not sure how I feel about this episode. On the one hand it was quite funny and sweet but on the other it was kind of plodding along to an inevitable ending 3/5

THOH 2: This one is pretty funny, Bart having those special powers is my favourite 4/5

Lisa's Pony: Great episode. Homer falling asleep in the car is classic moment 4/5

Satudays Of Thunder: Great episode: I love the entire first act where Bart's asking where all the tools are 4/5

Flaming Moes: Best of the season. I love Moe and the whole "Cheers" parody was hilarious, also Aerosmith were funny "Mrs. Krabapple, I really need my drumsticks" 5/5

Burns Verkaufen Der Kraftwerk: Very funny episode: "ooooh help Smithers the Germans are mad at me" 4/5

I Married Marge: Another flashback show. This one is one of the best I love Bart as a toddler 4/5

Radio Bart: Good episode: The song for Timmy O' Toole is really funny and Sting is great in this too 4/5

Lisa The Greek: One of my favourites 5/5

Homer Alone: Another great episode. just great from start to finish 5/5

Separate Vocations: One of my all time favourites. Love every minute of it 5/5

Dog Of Death: This is pretty good. The whole thing with the lottery is hilarious, Homer fantasy of being giant and made of gold is so great 4/5

Colonel Homer: Fantastic episode. Homer annoying everyone in the movie theatre makes me laugh just thinking about it and the show that Lurleen sings on is so funny. Also a very sweet episode 5/5

Black Widower: I love Sideshow Bob. This is a good one 4/5

The Otto Show: Great episode. The first act with Spinal Tap is very funny and the rest of the episode with Otto is hilarious 4/5

Bart's Friend Falls In Love: I like this one but it is quite wierd to see Milhouse being successful in anything. Also the Sex Ed film the kids watch is a classic Simpsons moment 4/5

Brother, Can You Spare Two Dimes: Great episode. Mr Burns making up a phony award is very funny and the baby translater is also great 4/5

Yet More Genius
5 out of 5 stars.
This for me was a defining moment in The Simpsons. This is where the writers, animators and all involved set the standard. Crammed with a relentless barrage of laugh out loud episodes Season 3 of The Simpsons ensured regardless of what followed that The Simpsons would be regarded as one the greatest television programmes in the history of all mankind. The writers suddenly developed a taste for making parodies of several movies including Goodfellas in Bart the Murderer, Its a Wonderful Life when Flanders Failed and Apocolypse Now when Lisa the Greek. What makes The Simpsons so hard to review is that its almost faultless. Homer at the Bat, Seperate Vocations and The Otto Show are superb episodes but the standard is so high it would be unfair to say these are stand out episodes in relation the the others. Just relentless fun and I love it.

Greatness
5 out of 5 stars.
By this time the Simpsons was becoming so popular they had the power to pull in superstars like Michael Jackson Aerosmith, and a brace of MLB stars, and make groundbreaking TV. The thrid season betters the first two and has some brilliant episodes and moments sprinkled around generously, from Flaming Moes (Hugh Jass- inspired!) to Lisa Gets A Pony (The Godfather parody, to "you love me so you dont get squat") and all the way back to Seperate Vocations ("Shove it", "so he didnt have leprosy"). Again the extras are bountiful with the usual deleted scenes commentaries easter eggs and animatics. Great Series Great Season Great DVD, bring on season 4

the simpsons best season!
5 out of 5 stars.
all I realy can say is buy this dvd! There is only one episode wich I think is very bad which is 'TREEHOUSE OF HORROR 2' but the rest are great, especialy 'omer at the bat'which is deffinatly the best. This DVD has a brilliant opening with 'stark raving dad' where Homer meets a white guy who says hes micheal jackson. so i would say buy! But thats my opinion Im only ten!

P.S sorry if theres spelling mistakes.
